RayProudfoot
Hi chaps, I’m running P3D v5.3. I’ve been wondering what the purpose of the shaded area is on the Approach chart for the selected runway. It generally starts around 7nm out. Is it the area when the gear should be down? I’m sure it’s not there for decorative purposes. 😁
aivlasoft
Hi Ray, although I have an idea of what you might talking about, could you please upload a screenshot so we can have a look at what you mean?
RayProudfoot
Hi Urs, Here's what I'm referring to. Is the start of that shaded area when I should have gear down? Distance of 8nm seems about right.
RayProudfoot
This is the approach plate for LEAL Rwy28 that has no ILS. Different to above so I don't think the shaded area is anything to do with gear down.
aivlasoft
Hi Ray, the shaded area is just the vertical view of the glideslope. It has nothing to do with a distance where you have to let down the gear.
RayProudfoot
Hi Urs, thanks for explaining. 👍
RayProudfoot
I’ve been sent an email about this topic asking me to mark the best answer as the solution. But I can’t see how to do it. No option available.
aivlasoft
Ray, I don't know what you mean. You don't have to mark the best answer herein, because there is no 'best answer', it's just an answer to your question.
lonewulf47
Ray, BTW, just to finish this: you will NEVER see any such hint about a "best gear down" distance or similar. This is never part of an approach plate. This is PURELY company procedures and as such depending on things like A/C type, MET conditions, etc.

I received an email from noreply@invisioncloudcommunity.com entitled “Did this answer your question”. I’m hoping you know these emails are being sent out. In this case there’s no best answer but I was going to mark your post about it not being related to gear down as most suitable. Never mind. 48 minutes ago, lonewulf47 said: Ray, BTW, just to finish this: you will NEVER see any such hint about a "best gear down" distance or similar. This is never part of an approach plate. Curiosity got the better of me. 😁

I'm not aware of these emails and as to my best knowledge I didn't enable such a feature for this forum because it would make no sense at all. Should you receive further emails please neglect them.
