  1. abax2000,

what other add-ons (which are also using SimConnect) are running at the time when FSX hangs?

the only option is to kill the sim and at the same time DataProvider is killed also (Display stays on)
If FSX is being killed it will no longer be able to terminate properly and as a result of this SimConnect will also crash. Therefore also the DataProvider crashes. It's like in a cascade ...

    Best regards,

    Urs

  2. Hi Bob,

it seems that these FS(X)-flight plans are actually FS9 *.pln files. Currently the only way to get them into EFB is to read them by the FSX flight planner (which is able to read FS9 plans) and then save them as real FSX plans. The next version of EFB will have the possibility to also read FS9 plans.

I kept experiencing fsx pause to loading scenery
This behavior seems to be the time synchronization between the computers and the FSX internal clock. You may switch-off this feature by deselection of the corresponding option (DataProvider > Settings > Miscellaneous > "Synchronize ..."
  3. Version 1.2.1 is available now

As per today (Dec 16th, 2010) a new installation package version 1.2.1 is available from the download area. For all new installations please use this package.

Installations made prior to Dec 16th, 2010 based on binaries with versions equal to or lower than 1.2.0.* can be upgraded to 1.2.1 using the Update 1.2.1, which is also available from the download area.

Quick link to the download area:

    http://www.aivlasoft.com/download/index.html

It is recommended to upgrade to this version 1.2.1.

For all questions concerning this update feel free to contact us either by postings in this forum or by e-mail to support@aivlasoft.com

  4. Robert,

while in flight it will want to update and black out the screen
What you describe is most probably due to the "UTC synchronize" function. Please see the DataProviders settings, (Menu "Extras", "Settings" -> "Miscellaneous" tab) and then uncheck the UTC synchronize option. This will prevent the "black out" screen.

it will not connect unless i start the data base on the first com.
The DataProvider (hence the name) provides the data for the DisplayUnit. Therefore the DisplayUnit cannot run until the DataProvider has been started.
  5. Bill,

I'm also flying the PMDG 744 ... and I'm using EFB on the same computer than FSX is running. The DisplayUnit runs on a second monitor. No problems in my opinion. If you run the DisplayUnit on a separate computer connected through a network I assume you also won't slow down your FSX computer.

Any users that can tell about their experience?

If the developer is praising its own software it always sounds good 8-).

  6. Robert,

    1. does the data base on the server have to be started first before FSX or is there a way to do this automatically.
I'm not sure whether you mean the EFB-DataProvider if you talk about the "database on the server"? The DataProvider should be started before the DisplayUnit, but only for the first time use (until it has created the database). After the initial creation of the database it doesn't matter whether you start FSX or EFB-DataProvider or EFB-DisplayUnit first.

    2. is EFB suppose to update in the middle of flying and everything goes blank, very annoying.
I'm not aware of such an "in-middle-of-the-flight" problem. Could you please describe this in more details?
  7. Hi,

you will not be able to open EFB from within FSX because EFB is a standalone and independent software (it's not a so called gauge). You must start EFB as you would do with any other windows application. Once EFB is running and connected with FSX you will be able to use the shortcuts which can be defined from the DataProvider's settings.

  8. Hi Frank,

    a) DisplayUnit - Settings - Folders and Links: The folder that you set in the FSX Flightplans textbox is the folder from where the DisplayUnit is getting the FSX flight plans.

    B) DataProvider - Settings - Folders: The folder that you set in this textbox is the folder wherein the FSX flight plans will be written by the DataProvider.

Obviously both of these textboxes should point to the same/identical folder which must be the default folder for FSX flight plans. (e.g. "C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files", for an English version of FSX running on Win7).

Don't use another folder or even a sub folder to prevent loading errors for the Garmin GPS.

    c) DataProvider - Settings - Folders: Only if the checkbox "Create FSX flight plans ..." is selected the FSX flight plans will be created.

    d) The FSX flight plans will be created whenever you press the "Activate" button from the "Route Setup Module".

  9. Hi,

I'm really sorry but it seems that the server is down. Unfortunately the server is hosted at an external service provider which also seems to be unreachable. Personally I'm very much disappointed with the current situation because it happened already a few times in the past.

Please be patient I'm still trying to get in touch with the support but it seems that on Saturday all of them have gone fishing ...

  10. SP4 is under way but due to some bugs we could not release it before easter, although we would like to have ...

    Please be patient.

BTW: Because the next version has a lot of new functions and improvements (beside of some bug fixes) I think that it will no longer be called "ServicePack" but just version 1.0.4. ;)

  11. Hi,

Is it possible to display the approach charts for an airport when not following a programmed route
Select the requested airport from the Airports Database (Menu "Airports" > "All Airports", then select the requested airport). This will open an "Off-route" airport viewer where you may select all the procedures you need.
