It makes not much sense to select a runway if there is nothing that follows that selection. Selecting just a runway but no procedure would not have any effect on the map. Although not 'connected' to the runway directly via a SID it seems logical to tell EFB which runway I will be using. One obvious advantage for some will be the green box indicating the direction to taxi. Maybe others have a view on this but I accept it's not a big issue.
