Data provider location

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am trying to setup the connection between display unit on a vista pc and data provider on an xp pc. Data provider on xp is set up. display unit on vista recognises the server name. In the folders and links tab. I have tried to select the data provider file on the xp machine and i can see it through finding my pc on the network option on the start menu of the vista machine. But when i enter the file path in the provider data folder it comes up with a message saying the folder doesn't contain the requested dataprovider files. Can you confirm that the required file is AivlaSoft\EFB\AivlaSoft.Efb.DataProvider.

Hi,

According to the forum rules, please sign your post with your real first name. I like to know to whom I talk ;-). Thanks.

What you describe sounds to me as the DataProvider was not yet running and therefore it could not create the necessary files. Did you run the DataProvider before you tried to connect the DisplayUnit?

The folder that must be shared on your XP machine is: C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\AivlaSoft\EFB\AivlaSoft.Efb.DataProvider

Hi

Data provider is running on the xp machine ok. I can't get past the stage of setting up the display unit on vista. The file pathname is correct and i can find it manually. The AivlaSoft folder has been given shared permission, but when I browse for it at the provider data folder (Network\computer\AivlaSoft\EFB) I can see the folders but not the actual files within the folders.

Cheers

Hi Ben,

I try to write down the facts we know:

A) on your XP computer ...

- the DataProvider is running, or it has been running at least once.

- the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\AivlaSoft\EFB\AivlaSoft.Efb.DataProvider" contains 13 files (named "a" to "m")

- if you run "Windows Explorer" you can navigate to this folder and can see all these 13 files

- this folder is shared for "everybody" (permission "read")

B) on your Vista computer ...

- If you run the Windows Explorer you can navigate to that shared folder on the XP computer (via Network).

- if you have a look into that shared folder (using Windows Explorer) you don't see these 13 files

Is that correct?

Hi Urs

Thanks for your help, It is working now. The dataprovider filepath was pointing to dataprovider within program files and not the correct file path. The local settings folder seemed to be hidden on xp.

Regards
