  1. Actually I'm in the middle of switching from IVAO->VATSIM and if I end up preferring VATSIM over IVAO vRoute Premium might be my choice since I understood it works well with VATSIM.
  2. Actually I think I'll hold off for some time and see what happens with that new app currently being developed, thanks for your input though!
  3. Looks promising, thanks for the link! However I would like something in the meantime so maybe I give FSBuild a try.
  4. Hi, The other day I was trying to plan a flight from GUCY to SBRJ. Normally I use the online RouteFinder tool that is also part of the EFB software. However when trying to plan a flight between these two airports the resulting route was a HUGE detour and with some help from my fellow VPA pilots someone was kind enough to give me a more realistic route he created using FSBuild. I've been using the RouteFinder for quite some time now and most of the time it works pretty well, especially considering it's a free service! However once in a while you find yourself in this situation when it just won't give you a realistic route so I was thinking of maybe investing a few $ in a good flight planning program. Any recommendation for a good flight planning program, would be very nice to have one that works in a good way together with EFB so the route can be imported into EFB. That FSBuild application is of course one candidate but noticed it's been around for quite some time now so maybe there are also other and even better options around? Might also add that I'm doing all my flying online on the IVAO network. Thanks in advance for any input!
  5. Looking forward to version 2 and I'll keep my fingers crossed
  6. Problem is I already have a 40 inch screen for FSX taking most of the space on my rather small desk so I don't really have the space left for another screen but otherwise it would have been a possible solution.
  7. Yep...already did that and as far as I can tell I won't be able to go any higher than 1024x600 with my HP Mini due to hardware limitations so my only hope would be if the EFB developer guys could: - make the EFB screens scale depending on the chosen resolution ...or... - include scroll bars so I can manually scroll myself to get to the info that is currently hidden due to my screen resolution Too bad I didn't think of this before I bought the HP Mini because the main reason I bought it was to be able to use EFB on a second PC while flying on my main PC where I have FSX installed.
  8. Sorry for being unclear, what I meant was 1024x600 is the recommended resolution for my HP Mini Netbook PC. Since I bought EFB long before I bought the HP Mini I honestly have never checked the EFB requirements on your site...my bad. I'm not sure if I might be able to increase the resolution by using another driver for my HP Mini but I doubt that considering how tiny the actual screen is and I don't want to use a magnifier to be able to see the icons May I ask why you have this minimum resolution requirement for EFB, wouldn't it be possible for you guys to use standard Windows windows instead that would work regardless of the resolution and where you have scroll bars allowing you to display what doesn't fit on the screen?
  9. Hi, I got myself a second PC to run addon programs for FSX like EFB etc. My second computer is a HP Mini and I have a problem when running the EFB DisplayUnit on it...sometimes all information doesn't fit the screen. For example, if I go to System-Settings-Charts it looks like this and as you can see the last three options/settings is not visible and since there isn't any scrollbar on the right hand side I can't even scroll down to them. I have tried pressing TAB several times hoping that will make the hidden options appear but to no avail. I have a similar problem when activating the Vectors function when looking at the ground chart where the rwy labels often or maybe even always appear outside the screen so they are not of much help. Maybe it's me missing something here but to me this appears to be a basic programming/design issue when you have windows that won't scale down depending on the chosen resolution in Windows nor showing a scroll bar when it's needed when not everything fits on the screen. My HP Mini screen resolution is set to 1024x600 and that is the recommended resolution. Thanks in advance for your comments on this!
  10. After reading your last answer I realized I was a little bit too fast reading your first answer because I thought you were talking about the various visual effects you can choose rather than the Windows theme. Anyway I have now tested by instead of having the visual effects set to 'Best performance' going back to 'Let Windows decide what's best for my computer' and that solved the problem After some more testing I found the specific setting that must be enabled for the yellow rectangles to show, the setting is called 'Use visual styles on windows and buttons' Thanks alot for pointing me in the right direction!
  11. Wow, your support is really fast and spot-on I guess although I'm not able to test until I get home today. I did choose the classic theme in an attempt to speed this PC up a bit since it's a simple Netbook without any real muscles Do I have to activate all fancy stuff or can you tell me what specific visual effect must be activated?
  12. Hi, After moving the display unit to a second PC for some reason when I select to show for example traffic on the chart I no longer get a yellow rectangle around the TRFC button. It's the same no matter what button I press to show things on the chart like VOR, NDB etc. Any idea what might cause this, maybe I missed a setting somewhere...? Thanks in advance,
  13. I'm happy to tell you I solved the problem or actually not solved it but found a way to work around it...I noticed I could drag the settings window behind the splash screen upwards and downwards and by doing so I was able to drag it all the way up or down to see one line at a time and filling each line out with the needed info. Was forced to type everything manually since pressing the Browse buttons to locate the shared folders etc didn't work since that would result in a window hidden by the spash screen. A little bit hard to describe but once I had all info entered and pressing OK the splash screen finally vanished and everything was up and running and connected. Just thought I would let you know so you don't spend any more time trying to solve the problem although it might be good if you find the real culprit because I guess others could end up in the same situation and of course it would have been so much easier to configure the application if you hadn't that splash screen all over the screen giving you a hard time to enter the needed info. I also downloaded and configured that Input Director software and it's brilliant, thank you so much for the link!! Now I'm a happy camper again and although I ended up spending this day on troubleshooting instead of flying I have something to look forward to tomorrow when I get home from work
  14. Not sure if it's of importance or a clue for the troubleshooting but I noticed I can left-click the different tabs (TCP Communication, Folders and Links, Charts etc...) and they will change accordingly so at least that to me indicates the application isn't totally locked. This is directly after I have started the application without doing anything else before this. However that is not of much help since it's nearly impossible to fill out any of the fields since the splash screen is blocking most of the screen and whenever there is a dialog of some kind that is waiting for my input or to click OK I won't be able to see that dialog. Back to uninstalling and re-installing...did it three times so far but still no go but will keep trying a couple of more times!
  15. Thanks for the input guys and the link to the Input Director application, will check it out once I get this to work! While you try to find out what is going on Urs I will try the suggestion to do a couple of more uninstalls/re-installs and keep my fingers crossed I really like EFB and longing for try it out with my new setup with 2 computers!
  16. Thanks but I already figured the same thing and tried what you suggest and what happens then is that the setting screen behind the splash screen advances from the TCP Communication tab to the Folders and Links tab but with the splash screen still on top of everything and after this the only thing I can do to get rid of the splash screen is to end the FormSplash application using Task Manager in Windows. And like I mentioned before to me it seems something isn't quite completed since the splash screen keeps saying 'Initializing...' all the time with the progress bar rolling from left to right. I have also just tried to uninstall EFB and then re-installed it but still the very same problem. This is really weird and I do hope it can be solved because I mainly bought this new little Netbook computer to be able to run EFB separately while using my main computer for FSX.
  17. Already tried ALT-TAB but in the list are only my Desktop and something called FormSplash. Same thing when looking in Task Manager, very annoying to say the least! I guess the problem that it keeps 'Initializing...' is the DisplayUnit isn't yet configured but it's very hard for me to configure it when this splash screen sits on top of everything not allowing me to see all the config settings behind that need to be filled in with name of the computer where I have the DataProvider etc etc. It's like some dialog waing for my input gets hidden behind the splash screen that I can't get to.
  18. Hi and thanks for the quick reply! First when I read your post I felt like a complete idiot although I would have loved such a simple solution to my problem but didn't think of it since it's saying 'Initializing...' and the progress bar keeps rolling, that made me think it wasn't finished. Anyway I now just tried what you suggest but I'm afraid it doesn't work, when I double click the splash screen only thing that happens is that the main EFB Display Unit - Settings window behind the splash screen momentarily flashes and I hear the standard Windows warning sound you hear when you try to close a dialog or such without first closing the main dialog if you know what I mean and the splash screen remains on screen. This is my last day on my vacation and I was really hoping I would be able to do some flying with my new EFB setup running on two computers like this so if you have any other things I could try to solve this I would be very greatful. TIA,
  19. Up until now I've been using my FSX computer for both the DataProvider and the DisplayUnit and everything has been fine. Now I decided to get myself a second computer to run EFB to avoid having to switch away from FSX whenever I want to check something in EFB. I have installed the DisplayUnit on this second computer and also made sure the 2 folders on my FSX/DataProvider computer are shared as pointed out in the documentation but I have a very annoying problem and I'm not sure if it's me doing something wrong or if something went wrong during the installation. My problem is that when starting the DisplayUnit on the second computer the EFB splash screen never goes away from the screen but keeps saying 'Initializing' with the rolling progress bar and the EFB DisplayUnit Settings page where I'm supposed to enter various stuff like the name of the computer where the DataProvider is installed etc but this is very hard to accomplish when I can't get rid of the splash screen window and when I can't even move it out of the way. I have managed to move the settings window behind the splash screen so I can just barely enter the server name of the DataProvider computer and then click the 'Check name' button but then I hear a 'Pling' sound and I guess that is the sound of some popup I'm supposed to respond to by clicking 'OK' or whatever but unfortunately I can't see it nor click on anything...the only way out of this I've found is to start Task Manager in Windows and choose to end the FormSplash process. What am I doing wrong here...?? TIA,
