Aircraft position in Pause-Mode, Aircraft symbol size

Recommended Posts

He there.

I´ve been using EFB in Trail mode for some days now and really looking forward buying it.

The interface is pretty straightforward and the data display together with a current version of an AIRAC cycle is great.

But, as any (hopefully) attentive customer I came across two points:

1. I can´t get a display of my current position in Pause-Mode of FSX. I think this is "by design" and maybe could be changed to an aircraft symbol on the last known position. I´ve seen this on other programs connecting via SimConnect (e.g. the freeware "Plan-G" with its moving-map) so it should be possible.

It would be nice to review SID and STAR or just your route without having to grab the joystick and flying blind when switching to the window with the charts.

Off course, the Autopilot would help but not all birds I´m flying have one installed (e.g. PBY Catalina) and sometimes I re-plan a flight and would like to see my current position on the map.

Edited: I have to correct myself. I had this aircraft symbol in Pause-Mode on my last flight, but I don´t know why it was absent the ones before.

2. The aircraft symbol is really huge. Maybe there´s room for an option to change its size.

3. I was watching my RAM-consumption the other day and realized that EFB with its both modules consumes about 550MB of RAM. Although I have enough RAM installed to run FSX and some addons´n tools, it´s quite heavy I think.

A change on this won´t be that easy and - as the amount of the average installed RAM rises every day - may not be necessary, but I liked to mention it even though.

My impression of this software is really good though it may appear pricey on the first view. But as far as I can see, there´s just no competitor for generating charts on AIRAC data including a nice and flawless interface and easy network-setup.

And off course: You offer a trial-period, which is a big step towards interested costumers.

Keep it up :)

Hi,

to an aircraft symbol on the last known position
I'm just working on that ... but, if EFB has been started before FSX there will be the small red circle only, because neither a previous aircraft position nor an aircraft heading is known until then. If FSX has been run before EFB enters pause-mode, the last position/heading of the aircraft is known and will be shown.

The aircraft symbol is really huge.
Can be changed with the next version, also color and shape.

RAM-consumption
EFB has been developed using the .net framework. This framework has it's own memory management (e.g. the "garbage collector"), which releases memory from time to time, but the developer's influence on it's behavior is really limited. On my computer (Win7, 32bit, 4 GB RAM) I often observe that FSX uses approx. 800 MBs and EFB something like 500 MBs. As long as there is enough memory, every application is greedy and takes as much as it can.

I think that this should be "state of the art" in todays software applications.
