Gathurst
Hello All, Having recently returned to fs after too many years absent, I have noticed EFB and want to get it working on my setup. In order to test it, I just want to set it up on a single computer, so I'm not doing anything fancy. Sadly, it's not as starightforward as I expected My first real question; is it necessary to have a subscription to Navigraph or AeroSoft nav data? I'm sure I read that EFB comes with an old cycle that can be used, but I can't find the folder structure referred within the install manual -Top Level ---SIDSTARS ---NavData Second question is regarding the data path to Active Sky weather. I'm using Active Sky for P3dv4. What exactly am I looking for? I am running P3d Version 4 on Windows 10 pro. Looks like a great product. Can't wait to give it a go! Cheers Tom
aivlasoft
Hi Tom, the installer contains a free (old) cycle for Aerosoft NavDataPro and one for Navigraph FMS Data. Please have a look at the installation and configuration manual, section 1, page 9. There you see "step 3" where you can select whether you want to install these free cycles. If you were a subscriber to either NavDataPro or FMS Data, you obviously won't need these cycles to be installed. The free cycles will be installed into "C:\Users\[username]\Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\NavData\..." As far as I know Active Sky is still creating a file called " current_wx_snapshot.txt" but I don't know the folder. Search for this file and then copy/paste the path into the corresponding text box. Gathurst
Gents, Brilliant. Thank you very much. My problems here are caused by the security setup of my PC. As a Systems Engineer I don't run my Windows sessions with a user account that is a member of the local administrators group. So installing programs as a different user (who is a local administrator) dumps everything into that user profile. So, once the install is complete, are admin rights required in order to run the program? Cheers Tom
Gathurst
Gents, So I managed to complete the first run of the Data Provider (I think). But now when I try to start it I get the error as attached, sometimes. Other times it just crashes out with the helpful Windows message saying that the 'Electronic Flight Bag - DataProvider has stopped working. A problem casued the program to stop working.... etc.' and the single option to 'Close Program'. I am still logged on using an account that is a member of local admins. I am not loading admins tokens by 'running as' an administator. Please advise. Tom
aivlasoft
Hi Tom, from your screenshot I can read "The process cannot access the file 'G:\SafeData\UserData ...\DataProviderLogfile.txt'". It seems that the DataProvider has not enough access rights to write into its own logfile. Quote So, once the install is complete, are admin rights required in order to run the program? I'm not aware that the DataProvider is doing any forbidden things, but I don't know whether admin rights are required for the connection to FSX/P3D via SimConnect.dll. On condition that the DataProvider is installed properly and it has read/write access to its own files, I guess that it will run without admin rights. Gathurst
Hi Urs, Sorry for late reply. The kids are trying to convince me I don't have time to enjoy my flightsim! So this issue above with file access appears to be a Dropbox conflict. If I disable updating my Dropbox, I don't get the error. It makes sense to me. So how do I go about moving these application log files into my %appdata%? Many thanks Tom
aivlasoft
Hi Tom, this requires some code change. I will have a look at this because there is still some more to fix for the next update.
Gathurst
Hello Urs, OK. No problem. I did notice that the files are getting placed a little badly. I did find on this forum a link to a different installer that did move some of the files to a user specified area. Sadly not all of them though. This is not unworkable for me and I have got EFB running OK in a simple network config (without admin credentials). I do have to pause Dropbox while I start things up but once EFB is running on both computers, it seems I can restart Dropbox replication. I haven't had an awful lot of time to test fully though and am now flying out on business for a couple of weeks. Looks like a great product though. So keep up the good work! Kind regards Tom
aivlasoft
Hi Tom, unfortunately this code change takes too much time to accomplish and it requires too many changes because this was not planned when EFB was programmed. In version 2 it's of course implemented.
