1. Hi all, Just noticed your post regarding the Majestic Dash 8 and EFB. While the original instal of the Dash 8 didn't seem to show up on the EFB I flew yesterday with both the Dash update installed and the EFB running and everything worked fine and my aircraft showed up as you'd expect. You have probably sorted this by now anyway but just wanted to mention it. Happy flying
2. Hi Urs, Thanks for your quick reply, I tried a flight this morning and all worked well. When I read the post that you included the link for I realised that's how I had loaded the last flight I did, so it seems I have it now..............Although like the other chap I didn't realise that activating an already saved flight in the EFB would automatically load it as a flight plan in FSX, how cool! Seems there is always something new to learn in this hobby. Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated. Happy flying,
3. Hi Urs, Thanks for the reply and the interesting link to the Microsoft comment regarding that error message. I think however that that may have answered the problem. I have been saving and activating my flight plans, using the EFB as you mentioned in your reply but when I load the flight and fsx loads up, the aircraft first appears about half way down the runway and off to the side on the grass, so I had been loading the flight plan but re-positioning the aircraft at the gate through the free flight page. So according to the Microsoft comment you directed me too, it's because the aircraft wasn't starting from the start point of the flight plan. I'm sure this is the problem now but need to try a few flights to test my thoughts. However I am curious as to why the aircraft starts half way down the runway, I'm guessing it's the point with appears in the airport ground diagram as the centre of the airport. Is there a way to download a flight plan but instruct it to load the aircraft at a certain gate? Thanks again Urs, David Phillips
4. Hi, Just a quick question, and my apologies if it has been answered before! I have been using the EFB for a few months and it's been really great. Recently though I have noticed that the aircraft gets so far along a route and then starts going off on it's own merry way across the virtual sky! I have been creating routes using the "Route Finder" option in create a route on the display unit, and saving the routes with EFB, FSX and PMDG options ticked. I assume if I tick these options then I get a flight plan saved in the EFB folder, FSX flight plans folder and PMDG flight plans folders. So I take off and all seems well, but when the aircraft goes off on it's own, I have tried routes using QW 757 and PMDG 737, afterwards I close FSX down, and the following error message shows "Error Loading GPS Engine, The Flight Plan Will Not Be Used". I'm not sure what exactly this means, and if maybe there is something ticked which shouldn't be or visa versa. Interested in any help you can shed on this, and if you need more information, I'll try and help Regards, David Phillips.
5. Hi All, Ok problem solved! I decided to uninstall my Freeware Duxford scenery I had been trying to sort out with the EFB, and use the UK2000 scenery for Duxford instead. My EFB now shows the grass runway 06/24 but now I have an extra grass strip lol. This one designated 06/24 as well, although it's not a duplicate of the other one as it shows as 10 metres longer. In FSX this middle one shows as unused though so no real problem I guess, it's just not like your William! Happy flying, David Phillips.
6. Hi William, Thanks for your reply, I do have VFR airfields Vol 1,2 and 3...........They are very good scenery additions to FSX. My Duxford scenery was the Freeware version from John Young of the Airfield Construction Group, maybe I should remove it and try the UK2000 Scenery for Duxford. I just liked the scenery how it included the Airshow flight lines and the Museum buildings. To be fair though I had it installed before I bought the UK2000 scenery so I've never really tried the UK2000 Duxford out properly, as I disabled it when I bought the VFR airfield package..............Thinking I will try it tomorrow, worth it if I end up with the correct Airfield ground chart on the EFB. Interested to see your profile says your near EGNX, that's not far from me either, I'm nearer EG74 myself but always nice to hear from folks interested in flight simming that are local. Thanks again for your advice, Regards. David Phillips.
7. Hi Urs, Thanks for taking the time to check out those files I forwarded to you. Strange that EGSU has 4 runways. When I saw that in the EFB Airport Information page I originally thought the shorter one was the grass runway, that was before I realised the grass runway was listed as EGS2! Hence my original confusion with trying to change one from Asphalt to grass. If I changed the EFB RunwayTxt file to show one runway say 06L/24R to "NIL" would that remove one of the runways from appearing on the EFB's ground chart?..................No it wouldn't would it! Although thinking about it, from what you have said, the EFB gets the info from the BGL file, so would always show 4 runways unless the BGL file was altered............Ok I think I've got it now! Anyway thanks for all your help with this, Regards David Phillips
8. Hi Urs, Thanks for the reply, I will send you that BGL file for EGSU that you mentioned in your reply to me, thanks for that. I think I may have found the answer to my problem though. The scenery installed has the two runways showing as different airfields in FSX, the Tarmac runway 06R/24L in the Airec cycle, is listed in FSX as EGSU but looking through the scenery manual the grass one 06L/24R in the Airec cycle, actually shows up in FSX as EGS2. So that brings up another question, is it possible to merge the two EGSU and EGS2 to show in the EFB on the same ground chart? I figure that way both runways would then show together! EGS2 doesn't appear at all in the Airec cycle, as I figure it is a made up identifier for the purpose of FSX. Interested in what your thoughts are on this. Thanks again for your help so far. David Phillips.
9. Hi Urs, Thanks for the reply although I'm not sure I explained the problem as well as I could have. I have a 3rd party scenery installed in FSX for Duxford, which has the correct Runways 06L/24R being the Grass one and 06R/24L being the Tarmac one, these appear in the scenery fine and in their correct places on the airfield. The Airec cycle included with the EFB shows the two runways at Duxford, but when I changed the EFB runway file, to include two runways they appear on the display unit superimposed ontop of each other. If this is still a problem I need to contact the scenery developer about then that's fine, although I'm not sure what I would be asking them to provide me with? I hope this explains the problem better, and sorry if my original post might have been misleading. Regards David Phillips.
10. Hi all, I flew into EGSU Duxford the other day in FSX and found the airport ground diagram was unavailable in the Display unit. The error message on the Data Provider said something to the effect that the Airec info and FSX scenery were different. So I followed your instructions for updating the info. The reason for the error, EFB had Duxford with one runway 06/24 only and my scenery in FSX and the Airec cycle included with the EFB has the Grass Runway included, so it should be 06L/24R being the grass one and 06R/24L the Tarmac one. However after completing the changes in the EFB Runway, txt file as per the instructions, the ground chart for Duxford now shows two runways superimposed on top of each other. Is there a way to show the grass runway off set along side the tarmac one? Also is there a way to update the airport information page to change the surface texture of the 06L/24R grass runway, from Tarmac to Grass? Thanks for any help, David Phillips.
