1. Sorry but I think you misunderstand me. The above problem still remains and I have sent you the logs to try and help you find the source. My last mail was an attempt to eliminate possible causes. My efforts are very amateurish - you are the professional and hopefully will be able to see a way round. My thinking tells me that if the network is working then it may be a mistake in my file sharing since the program stops when trying to load data from my route airports. I will be looking at that today. Regarding your last question on file folder tips, I'm afraid I don't understand the question. John McWilliam
2. Have checked out my home network and can confirm that all the shared folders can be seen from my secondary (display unit) laptop. This has again been confirmed by starting EFB and going to system settings and folders. There are no red flags there so all the folders can apparently be seen by the program. John McWilliam
3. Email sent with Log Files as requested. John McWilliam
4. I'm trying to run the display unit on a secondary laptop under Vista Home OS with the Dataprovider on a primary Windows 7 laptop together with FSX. Each time try to modify a loaded route EFB stops working and dataprovider shows an error: 1) Sender [sendMessages], NetworkError: Unable to write data to the transport connection: an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (repeated...) 2) Connection to 192.168.1.34 terminated, caused by StoppedUnconfirmed (repeated...) The displayunit shows an error: ProblemSignature01: aivlasoft.efb.displayunit.exe 09: SysytemIOFileNotFoundException I have opened the files to be share for "Everyone" in order to avoid having to use a user name and password each time I set up the system. My sharing seems to be correct though I did have problems directing routes to be save to FSX/PMDG/Flightplans. I want to give my PMDG aircraft access to the routes planned in EFB. At present I cannot use my EFB at all which is very sad so I hope someone out there can come up with a solution. jsmcwilliam
5. From jsmcwilliam: Problem solved! I had the wrong IP adress in my DU settings. I got help from reading previous related posts - the forum works.

7. From JsMcWilliam: I enclose the screens associated with the above to clarify my problem. See next mail for final screens.
8. Thank you for your response URS. Here follows my answer to your questions: 1. My display computor was running on a mobile internet connection during the summer but apart from that I cannot remember any significant changes. Now that I'm back in town everything else is running normally. 2. On the FSX unit the dataprovider seems to show normal settup info. 3. I have done a reinstall of the Aivlasoft software but the problem remains - I never get past "Connecting DataProvider" on the display unit. Each time I try to startup I have to log into my local network first but that has always been the case. 4. I've checked using explorer to make sure I can see the FSX computer from the display unit. 5. The DataProvider indicator on the display unit top left is red and the UTC time doesn't match the computor time shown on both units and the dataprovider on the FSX computor - it's exactly 2 hrs behind! Bottom left Loading... is indicated and if I click on that it changes to OK. The only option available on the menu is System. jsmcwilliam
9. I have been a passive user during the summer months and am trying to start EFB again. Previously everything was functioning normally. I have a distrubuted setup with two computors. My questions are: 1. Why do I get an error message when I start EFB - Display Unit? - Formsplash is not answering, Dataprovider folder doesn't exist or is not available. 2. I have downloaded the July update to my FSX computor and Display Unit. I still get the error, "Formsplash is not answering" and the program seems to freeze when trying to "Connect DataProvider". I have checked that the two folders are shared. jsmcwilliam
10. Thanks for the tip. I will look into it but it sounds a little complicated for an amateur regarding networking. jsmcwilliam
11. Each time I try to start the display unit I get an error - Formsplash not responding. I then have to log into the network with my user name and password. Is there a smoother more logical way of doing this?
12. It took some time but I got the distributed installation working and did a test flight ESSA to ESMS. At the gate during my preflight procedure and twice during the flight I was disconnected from EFB and examination of the Dataprovider log showed: Connection terminated - TimeoutSND (repeated ...). Could this be the screen saver or is there another explanation John McWilliam
13. I have been a licensed user for some time now using an additional display and am happy with the program. I would like to try a distrubuted installation to see if this will help the prestanda of FSX which runs on a Windows 7 PC. My second computor runs under Windows Vista. Questions: 1. Is this a disadvantage and should I first upgrade the second computor to Windows 7? 2. Must I start the process by removing the first installation of EFB followed by a completely new installation? 3. At what stage do I share the relevant folders? 4. What are the relevant folders which should be shared? 5. Are there any other points which should be considered?
14. But does that mean that I cannot pick up the approach details for rwy 26 (ILS freq, Crs etc). They do exist but I had to ask ATC for them. If I go to Approach in EFB I still cannot access that plate.
15. Thanks, works fine now. I did a test flight from ENGM to ESSA with ELTOC 2C arrival to Rwy 26. During descent I set up the arrival but when I tried to set up the approach the Rwy 26 alternative was the only one NOT available (grey) and I had to ask ATC for the ILS frequency (110.1) and Crs. Could it be my Airac Cycle (AIRAC_1202) or is it your database? I did a dry run again today with the same result, no appraoch plate for Rwy 26! All other Rwy's are available. Grateful for your input on this. Otherwise very happy with the pgm.
16. I have done as you described and now have defined display 1 & 2 with 1 as the main display. Display 1 has the desktop and 2 the openning screen for Windows 7. I did a restart but still cannot get EFB onto the secondary display. Everything is as before focused to my primary display. I am really impressed with EFB but realise that I must have it on a separate display. I have read the configuration manual to no avail. Can you offer any suggestions?
17. Another question regarding an extra display using one PC: 1. To try this it would appear that I must reinstall the software - is that correct? I tried pluging in the extra screen but this only achieved two identical displays. 2. How do I move mouse control to the extra display?
18. Thanks for the quick reply. Can you comment the last part of my question concerning use of the Ipad as a DU. JSMcWilliam
19. I have a Window 7 setup and am pleased with the program in its demo version. I realise, however, that a seperate display would be to my advantage. I have a second computor running on Vista and both ar linked to a local network, however, the setup at the moment does not, as far as I know, allow direct communication between these two. Is the use of two OS's likely to cause a problem and must I change the setup to allow PC to PC communication? Your install program may do this automatically? Finally, I have a touchscreen Ipad and wonder if this could be used as a display unit? JSMcWilliam
