Of course it will not be free of bugs, what a question. Even FMC software from the "big ones" is not free of bugs ...

Although we did a lot of effort to find and fix bugs, software these days will never be free of bugs. That's a fact.

    I know - I know - it is a doubt question.

I know from v1 that v2 will be amazing as your work is impecable.

Planned release date is   1 July 2018.

Congratulations Urs - it has been a long time coming but I can see, from the great EFB2 Manual that you have released, the reason why - what a lot of planning, designing and coding - looking forward to July 1 (only a week away - wow)

One question - Do you feel that on this release it will be bug free, at least for the most part?

  3. Hello Urs,

What I have discovered is that Navigraph does not provide older AIRAC Cycles however fsAerodata does provide the 1611 Cycle as long as you have a subcription to Navigraph as well as fsAerodata.

So having both subscriptions I downloaded and installed 1611 into my two sims - FSX and P3D. All is good as far as the sims go as they now match the 1611 data in the GTN750 GPS. Little NavMap is also good because I turned off the option to use Navigraph 1802 (which is included) so the Little NavMap data is now coming from my sims which is the 1611 data.

Now when I go to AivlaSoft EFB I do not see an option to turn off the Navigraph Cycle and just use the sim data - is that possible? And if so are there any issues in doing this?

    Regards,

    Dane

  4. AvilaSoft EFB is a very good flight planning tool just like my Flight1 GTN750 GPS I would not fly without it.

Is there a way to load an AIRAC 1611 database into AivlaSoft EFB so that when I plan a route and export it to my GTN they would both be in sync? Often the GTN is not happy with many of the way points because it's database is an older 1611?

    Regards,

    Dane

  5. Thank you.

A few suggestions for the New version:

    1. Launch only one app and have the other launch automatically.

    2. Or if Data provider is launched first then have a click button to launch Data display and also the other way around.

    3. Be able to choose points on the map to add, change, delete by using the mouse.

    4. Be able to use the mouse to navigate around the map easier - scrolling, moving, zooming, etc.

    Dane

My normal Documents are on my 'D' drive it seems that DataProvider does not like that.

Not sure what to do as this is as far as I get - see attached screenshot

    Dane.

    DataProvider Error.JPG

OK after a lot of time I discovered some errors which I believe occurred during the install.  I am not sure what I did but I seemed to fix it.

Then another error message wanted a Port 13 to be setup so I had to do that as well - not sure why I would have to do this as you would think the installer would take care of these tasks.

Anyway it is now installed and configured (I think) as it seems to be functioning, I now have to figure it out.

I do hope for the future your installation should be made a bit more 'user friendly'.

When do we get to see the next update to the long anticipated version 2.

    Regards,

    Dane

    Hi Dane,

What has changed since then? Knowing that would be the clue to a solution.

I fear that I cannot find it because I don't know your computer and its history.

From the program logic I can say for sure that not EFB is locking its own logfile (which would not make sense at all) but any other application, may it even be Windows itself. There were other customers in the past who complained about this problem and on all their computers it was either the AntiVirus or a Backup program.

Well Urs - once again I thank you.

It seems that it is probably not EFB that is the problem as I WAS having problems with other probrams - this all started after a Windows update. The bottom line is I have experienced a crash (Windows Blue Screen of Death!!!) I am now in the process of doing a COMPLETE Factory Reset and re-installation of all programs, etc. - it will take several days even though I have a one day old full backup as well as two pages of documentation for all my programs including Program Registrations.

But here is a lesson to anyone else reading this - make sure you have, as I do, regular weekly full backups, as well as documentation of what you have and what all needs to be re-installed should this dreadful day happen to you.

Hopefully by the end of this week I will be up and flying again...

    Dane,

thanks for the event log file. I can see that the DataProvider cannot access its own logfile. I cannot say why. It seems that the logfile is either locked by another application, most probably the AntiVirus program, or maybe a backup program. Try to exclude the entire data folder of the DataProvider from being accessed by such programs.

Urs, it is not a backup program as I do not use any automated program running, when it is time to back up I manually start the program.

I did go into my AntiVirus (ESET NOD32) and added the EFB path to be excluded - rebooted, but same problem. So I then turned off my AntiVirus, but same problem. So it seems it is something else.

    EDIT...

I just thought - could these problems be caused by any Windows 10 updates?

Because nothing has changed in my system other than the Win10 updates and both DataProvider and DataDisplay were working well for the first two weeks of October then the problems started.

I have lost over one week of the Demo use and I suspect I will loose the balance of time remaining. I do not want to purchase if I am having these issues.

Hope you can find the problem(s)...

    Hi Dane,

you have posted photos from different issues:

    1) The first one seems to be a problem when the DataProvider is analyzing the scenery files on your computer. Obviously it was faced with a problem for which it is not prepared. Windows caught the exception and wrote it to the event log. I hope this article will help to guide you how to view the event log.

    2) The second photo shows the information that the DataProvider could not reach a time server on the internet to verify the system time. This is due to security considerations while the demo license is active. It will not happen once a full license is installed.

3 and 4) shows the error that the DisplayUnit cannot access its logfile because it is blocked by another program, most probably the AntiVirus program, or a backup program. Try to exclude the entire DisplayUnit data folder from any checks by such programs.

    Thank you Urs,

Hopefully I am attaching the correct Windows Event Log for your review. It does show error reports throughout the log.

The file is too large so I hopefully am sharing it correctly - let me know please. I sent the email invite to support@aivlasoft.com

    Hi Dane,

no, it has nothing to do with the demo period.

Are you familiar with the Windows event log? From the photo that you provided I can see that there must be an event log entry after the DataProvider crashed. Could you provide the details of this entry?

I have heard of the Windows Event Log but NO, I do not know where to find it or what to look for - if you can point me in the right direction I would be happy to try.

    EDIT

Hi again Urs, just wanted to give you another update on my issue.

Today it took about four attempts to try and get DataProvider to finalize it database update process but it kept crashing. So I powered off my PC and performed a cold boot and it ran DataProvider and it did complete the process - I will attach the two different error messages from that process.

Then I tried to run DataDisplay and it took about six attempts to get it to run - I will attach two different error messages from that process.

All is OK now. I reinstalled and DataProvider worked but DataDisplay had errors loading so I reinstalled a second time and both start up OK.

Well I was wrong, all is not OK. I have reinstalled now four times and both Data Provider & Display Unit keep crashing.

Could this be because I am still in the demo period?

    Hi Dane,

Try selecting the properties option for the runway. There will be clear indicators if either or both ends of the runway are closed for takeoff or landing. Those yellow X marks are suspicious.

Its a simple procedure to uncheck the closed options but bear in mind you cannot only have one end open for takeoff or landing. It’s both or nothing. For example if 08 is open for takeoff then 26 must also be open.

    Thank you again Ray,

After many hours of trying to figure out ADE as I had never used it before, and many frustrating tries I finally figured out how to use ADE and then fixed my issue with this airport.

This is totally awesome as now EFB as well as LittleNavMap now is showing an open airport. It is strange that Plan-G never reported the airport as closed, but it doesn't matter now as all is good.

    Thanks again,

    Dane

    Dane,

The only thing I can think of is that both ends of the runway could be set to closed for takeoff and landing. Use ADE to check if you have it.

Thank you Ray - I never thought to check ADE simply because I have never used it.

So here is a print screen of the SABA airport in ADE - there is an X at each runway end does this mean it is closed? If so is it possible to edit this and allow the airport to be opened up or do I just live with it the way it is?

    Hi Dane,

the first error message is described in the manual. Please see there, section 2, page 3. There is also a detailed post in the FAQs.

The second and third message seems to have the same cause. I don't know why but the EFB logfiles cannot be accessed because some other process (most probably a backup software, or the AntiVirus program) is accessing and locking it.

Thank you Urs, I appreciate your response, I will review

    Hi Dane,

I'm not sure, but from the screenshots I think that the screen resolution is too low. Especially the height of the screen looks very small to me.

If you are in the approach view, try to hide some of the horizontal panels using the panel options (see manual, section 7, page 35). Maybe this can help.

Regarding the 'mess' of the fixes I don't think that there is much improvement with a deeper zoom. Sometimes these fixes are simply located to dense.

OK Urs, I appreciate your response and suggestions.

  16. I have installed the Demo version and am testing it out.

Besides my previous posting regarding Error Messages I have another issue that really causes a problem in viewing the route for Departure, Enroute, Arrival, and Approach - see attached print screens.

    1. The Zoom level does not seem to go far enough as when Fixes are activated they become one mess of fixes that cannot be viewed.

    2. Also on the Approach view it would be nice to be able to expand vertically the route area in order to see a more complete overall view. I do realize that the upper and lower areas of the screen are needed for vital info but if one could simply make the center section larger as required and then put it back to the normal view as required, that would be helpful.

Also just curious - will Version 2 have a different map display? like maybe Sky Vector type of map?

Overall this seems to be the best flight planning tool I have seen for FS and I look forward to your responses for this as well as my previous Error Messgae posting and of course Version 2.

  17. I recently installed the DEMO version to check this program out, I am very impressed but it does not seem to be very stable in startup - this probably is all my doing, so I need help.

See attached print screens for my current issues.

    1. I have a few airport error issues in the DataProvider- see example of just one

    2. DataProvider startup error.

    3. DisplayUnit error

Existing users will get a discount. The details about the discount have not yet been discussed because I'm still fully absorbed in programming and testing this new version.

There will also be a so called 'grace period'. Grace period means that customers who purchased the old version within 30 days before the new version is released, will get a free update to the new version.

    Thank you for this info...
