  1. First of all, my thanks to all who attempted to help me. I went with Urs' suggestion first on the .net framework angle. I went into the "turn windows features on or off" section of control panel and looked to see if .net framework was even installed, and found that ver. 3.5.1 was there. However, some features were not activated, so just to be sure, I turned them on. When that was complete, I tried launching EFB on my display computer, and it immediately crashed. I then decided to try one of wycliffe's ideas, namely to uninstall and reinstall the display unit software. Also I upgraded to the service pack again. This time the program launched successfully. Apparently it was a case of a corrupt installation. Just as a matter of information, I was not asked to make a firewall exception for this program, as I was when running the data provider, so it was not necessary to deal with the firewall at all on the display computer. Now back to continue the setup on the display computer, hopefully with no problems ; o ) Thanks again to all for your suggustions. Tom Murphy
  2. Hi, I've read many favorable reviews and comments about your program. Months ago I attempted to try out your demo, but the laptop I was using for the display unit just wasn't up to specifications. Now I have an upgraded FSX computer and a newer laptop for the display unit. I was attempting to set up the demo again and got the Data Unit software successfully installed. I then installed the the display unit software, but when I try to start it up, I get an immediate crash to desktop. The error message I get is the following: Electronic Flight Bag - DisplayUnit has stopped working. Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: AivlaSoft.Efb.DisplayUnit.exe Application Version: 1.3.1.0 Application Timestamp: 4ddb8bac Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17514 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7bafa Exception Code: e0434f4d Exception Offset: 0000b727 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 I tried right clicking on the shortcut and selecting "run as administer," but that didn't help either. The specs on my laptop are Brand: MSI Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @2.4 GHz 4.00 GB (3.79 GB Usable) Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit Do you have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? Thanks in advance, Tom Murphy
  3. Urs, You hit on the problem! It was the font size. Darn, these old eyes are much happier with larger print! Thanks much, Tom
  4. Hi, After spending considerable time adjusting the display unit settings. I discovered that they had not been saved. After reopening the display unit, all the settings had returned to their default values. Looking at the manual, I now see that there are supposed to be four buttons along the bottom labeled "Set Default," "Info About," "OK," and "Cancel." These buttons are missing on my version, which is the DEMO. I assume they should be there even on the DEMO, and that probably the OK button saves my data. My Data Provider is a desktop machine running Win 7, and my display unit is a laptop running Win XP. Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks, Tom
  5. Hello, Urs, Thanks for the link. I did read and study it, but it didn't seem to cover my particular problem related to sharing Win 7 files. I also tried setting up a network drive according to the author's examples, but that didn't work either. I suppose I'll have to hire a tech to come over to my house. If I find the answer, I'll share it with the forum. I appreciate everyone's comments. Best to all, Tom
  6. Hi, Terry, Thanks for your attempt to help. I did manage to create a network drive with the folder Microsoft Flight Simulator X as an experiment, but my remote computer was still not allowed access to it even though it was showing on the network. I did not have these problems with Win XP. Win 7 seems to have different rules for sharing. I don't understand why I'm allowed to share my Documents folder over the network, but not others that I designate. I am so unsure of myself that I will need a step-by-step walkthrough by someone who has accomplised this using Windows 7. Again, thanks much. Tom
  7. Hello, I would really like to try out your wonderful-sounding program, but I have been stumped during the set-up process. I cannot get my Window 7 computer to share the Data provider files, in this case, C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Local\AivlaSoft\EFB\AivlaSoft.Efb.DataProvider, with my laptop running Win XP. I got far enough to get my laptop to show the directory, but when I go to My Network Places on the display computer and try to remotely open the the AppData folder I get an error message saying it's not accessible. I have successfully set up sharing between these two computers as in say, my Flight Simulator X Files folder, but I can't get the AppData and subfolders to share. I did notice that the AppData folder is "hidden," so I changed it and all subfolders to an unhidden state, but that didn't help either. It does no good to say, "check your operating systems instructions on how to share files," because most of those instructions are way above my level of understanding. Perhaps someone who has Windows 7 and has successfully completed this step could walk me, and others who may be experiencing this problem, through the process step-by-step. I can tell you it would be much appreciated by me. Thanks in advance, Tom
