  1. True, that is I am looking for the "theory" behind it.

From what I read around, simconnect "overloads" with other things too (internal fs operations), beyond addons communicating with it.

The only ones I am using are FSUIPC, AS2012 and EFB (and probably FSrecorder if it is also hooked on simconnect), which normally should not overload it; except if some of these "misbehave" or there are also other parameters.

  2. Hi Urs,

I had forgotten that this is connected to simconnect timeout.

    Thanks for refreshing.

Is there any internet source (post/document) that elaborates on what can overload simconnect (except the obvious, i.e. addons connected through it)?

In the first google search could not find something.

  3. It happens lately that Data Provider crashes unexpectedly in mid flight (with no apparent reason or something special happening).

The log only states thi kind of messages

    2013-06-15 15:38:30,863 [1] WARN AivlaSoft.Efb.DataProvider [(null)] - DefWndProc (isConnected=true): Exception from HRESULT: 0xC000014B

What can be wrong and where to look ?

  4. Urs,

a summary of what I have seen so far:

    1. "Save" button with no SID yet selected, gives a IFRxxx.pln with a default (?) runway (I used LGAV as an example, so this was 03R)

    2. "Save" button with SID selected, gives a IFRxxx.pln with the correct runway (21R in my example)

    3. "Activate" produces a EFBxxx.pln with the correct runway this time. At the same time, EFB_current_garmin.pln gets updated, but with no departing runway.

    So, conclusions so far:

    1. In order to get the right runway into EFBxxx.pln you have to "Save" then "Activate", and not just "Activate" (in this case no runway is defined even if SID is defined).

    2. I understand that EFB_current_garmin.pln is what is fed to FSX, and that does not get the runway definition anyhow.

    3. With no runway assigned in the EFB_current_garmin.pln, ATR seems to define its own "default" runway (in this example, 03L), but this now seems irrelevant.

Note: (not sure if this is helpful) the SID transition point in EFBxxx.pln has a NEVR1E notation, while in EFB_current_garmin.pln not.

  5. ...and just discovered that when the "Save" button is used (instead of "Activate"), you get a differently named .pln (IFRxxx.pln), in which everything seems right:

Now I'll have to check if this version will do the trick.

  6. Urs,

    I started checking your instructions.

Findings so far: the FSX flight plan (EFBxxx.pln) created after pressing "Activate" does not have anything defined in . This is the same with SID defined or not. If SID is defined, the waypoints of the SID are properly defined.

So, the .pln created looks like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

  7. Travis,

thnx for caring, although the post was not aiming EFB official support, just the experience of fellow users. And this just for the reason of EFB forums being so alive and full of knowledgeable people (more than can be said for ATR forums and support).

The FSX version of ATR is known to be haunted by some unresolved issues, so most probably this is part of the list. It is certainly not any kind of EFB problem.

As to your questions (and to the best of my knowledge):

    1. The flight plan is the FSX flight plan created by EFB (EFB_xxxx.pln) residing in My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files.

    2. Runway as defined in flight plan (I guess indirectly) through selected SID.

    3. The flight plan contains an SID for rwyX, but in ATR FMS (after loading the flight plan) you get departing runwayY.

    Cheers

    Apostolos

  8. And here it is sir:

2011-05-30 21:28:13 Error Error System.IO.EndOfStreamException: Unable to read beyond the end of the stream.

    at System.IO.__Error.EndOfFile()

    at System.IO.BinaryReader.FillBuffer(Int32 numBytes)

    at System.IO.BinaryReader.ReadInt16()

    at kh.a(String A_0, Int32 A_1) while reading: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\0702\scenery\giza_image.bgl

This was installed just yesterday, along with the new GEX AFME (it is what the name implies, an improved rendering of Giza pyramids, next to Cairo).

Would it be something to worry about or just forget it (no visible problems noted)?

    Many thanx anyhow,

    Apostolos

  9. While DataProvider is running scenery update, it produces an error line (in between the normally running lines), which says something like:

ErrorSystem.IO.EndOfStreamException:Unable to read beyond the end stream

(It's not possible to cut and paste the line, because as soon as it finishes the whole process, it pops up the dialog box for restarting.)

This is happening somewhere while reading the FSX Scenery subfolders. The process ends up ok (no warnings).

Both EFB and FSX are running normal with no problems.

It is sure that this is definitely not an EFB problem but it sees something "abnormal" in FSX.

Could you please help by "decoding" the message I get?

PS. yet another use of EFB: FSX debugger

  10. 1. No, it was not available for some reason. Maybe I try and check again during the week.

    2. You are right of course; it is mentioned somewhere. It would be nice to fill the gap in a forthcoming update, since most Scandinavia, Iceland, Alaska et al are left out. And now, that you have provided it, we are already hooked on it ;)

  11. Just 2 issues I happened to stumble upon:

    - LSGS (Sion) approach is not available

    - Iceland does not have min altitude in map squares

PS: Would it be a good idea to create a board index item for things like these (missing procedures, map glitches, minor bugs etc)?

    Apostolos

  12. it would be very helpful if the airport selector list had an additional column with the (greater circle) distance from the selected airport or current position (whichever is selected). If an additional column is not easy, Lat/Long clumn could be used as it is probably the least useful.

    best regards to the team,

    Apostolos

  13. It must be related to the following issue

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961894

I just remembered that I had a similar problem in the past also, when running FSX and EFB together, and it was resolved using the above.

It seems that everytime you install anything that updates VC++2005 modules, you end up with problems in older applications build with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, because there is no backward compatibility.

    Apostolos

  14. Thnx all for the tips...that's why I love this forum.

I have an Ati card, and I recently updated drivers to 11.3 (almost the same time I upgraded to 1.3.1 - and here is the coincidence).

Overall I was thrilled with 11.3 because quality (in windowed mode) and performance were greatly improved.

So, I guess I'll wait 11.4 and see what happens.

    Apostolos

  15. Does the following (see bold) can be related to EFB?

It started when I upgraded to 1.3.1, but this can be pure coincidence.

If not, any ideas would be more than welcome.
