Something in your User Settings is causing the DU to be fretful.

I can suggest a course of action that might be a temporary workaround, but Urs will be the better diagnostician.

  • First - backup your current \Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Settings\DisplayUnit_UserSettings.bin file
  • Next, delete the \Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Settings\DisplayUnit_UserSettings.bin file
  • Then make a copy of the \Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Settings\DisplayUnit_UserSettings_current.bak file and rename it DisplayUnit_UserSettings.bin

So you should now be using your "last known good" UserSettings file.

Launch your EFB DP and then your remote DU. With luck it should load fine.

If it does not launch properly, or if you do not have a \DisplayUnit_UserSettings_current.bak file then launch the remote DU without a \DisplayUnit_UserSettings.bin file. The DU should build a new one with the default settings.

(In either event, you would have a backup of your current UserSettings file in case it could be restored.)

Had a look at that.

Hmmmm....something odd.

There is no DisplayUnit_UserSettings.bin file on the DU PC.

Had a look at the same directory on the DP PC and sure enough, there is the DP bin file plus its .bak file.

Tried starting the DU but same error and its not rebuilding the .bin file, so unfortunetaly no further forward. I tried reinstalling the DU but no different. That said, I did not uninstall and then reinstall. Should I have done that ?

Flew a couple of flights today without EFB .... God how I miss it !!!

Thanks for the help.

Andrew,

try the following on the DU computer:

1) Locate the following folder: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Settings

2) Delete any files that start with "DisplayUnit_...."

3) Uninstall the DisplayUnit using the Windows Uninstall function (Control Panel)

4) Re-install the DisplayUnit

5) After starting up the DisplayUnit it should be possible to re-configure the settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Urs,

Uninstall - reinstall seems to have sorted it.

Odd thing tho. Even after reinstall, there are no files on the DU PC called displayunit_usersettings.bin or .bak. A search shoes a series of .bin files in the EFB subdirectory called g1, g2, g3 .bin, and similar s.bin and c.bin files.

Should there be "...usersetting.bin and bak files created somewhere ?

Howeverm, as I said, all working again and glad to have it back :D

Hi Urs,

I'm using Windows 7

The only file in that location is a Cimconnect.cfg file.

Now when I installed EFB I did not use Program Files. Its in a directory I use for FSX Apps. ie C:\FSX Apps\EFB\

The only .bin files I can find are located here...

C:\Users\username\Appdata\Local\Aivlasoft\EFB\Aivlasoft.Efb.DisplayUnit\

In that location theres is a file FormSettings.bin and a series of 10 "s" "r" and "g" .bin files.

There's a simconnect file in "\Documents\AivlaSoft\EFB\Settings" :?::!:

I think we might have to dig a little deeper in looking at your system, so if you want to take this to email with Urs, that's fine. (Or since all is fine with your system now, we could drop this as well.) :)

  • Do you have Windows7 32 or 64?
  • What are your regional settings?

Solved the mystery.

Looking in the wrong place !

My HDD is partitioned. The correct Docs folder is on the other partition to keep data seperate from the Win7 and other programs. Sure enough, in the Aivlasoft folder on that drive there are the .bin and .bak files. I'll go stand in the corner now
