Transfer from FSX to P3D

Recommended Posts

There appears to be a problem with Simconnect and SimpleCam in regards to saving camera positions in P3D (ver3). If I have the same aircraft in P3D as in FSX, is there any way of transferring the FSX data into P3D so that you can change the cockpit views, and if so what would be the procedure. It seems P3D locks you out of saving camera positions for some reason.

Hi John,

which version of P3D do you use?

On my flight sim computer I have the professional version 3.3.5.17625 installed and no problems so far with saving camera positions.

The camera settings are saved at C:\Users\[username]\Documents\AivlaSoft\SimpleCam

For each aircraft model the name of the *.air file is relevant for the file name. SimpleCam does not distinguish between e.g. a Cessna 172 which is installed in FSX and the same aircraft which is installed in P3D. SimpleCam assumes that a Cessna 172 is a Cessna 172, therefore the camera positions are written into the same file, regardless whether you update it from within FSX or from within P3D.

Hi

Thanks. I am using V3.3.5.17625 like you. I have come to the conclusion that it probably isn't a SimpleCam problem but a P3D issue. When I load P3D it automatically loads SimpleCam but once inside P3d, though camera positions can be set up, the save screen will not appear so it can't be saved. A reinstall did not answer the problem (though it did for FSX-SE!) As a test I tried setting up an OPUS camera position. I have OPUS and use it for weather quite often but not for the cameras. Unlike SimpleCam, I found the bindings erratic and unreliable, so I  always use SimpleCam for cockpit views. OPUS too uses simconnect and it would not work in P3D suggesting a common problem with simconnect. Have tried to reinstall simconnect but it hasn't solved the problem. Probably the only solution is to do a complete re-installation of P3D and see if that solves the problem. Reluctant to start that at the moment!

I assume from your post that if I set up (for example) camera views for the Carenado B1900D in FSX, then P3D should also pick up the same camera positions, so in theory if I set cameras in FSX sim, they should be read by the P3D. Have discovered the folder in Documents and seen that there is just one file per aircraft type. I'll test this out.

Thanks for the follow up

Kind regards

John

Hi again.

Update to the previous post. Opened P3D and used C172 that I have set up cameras for in FSX. What happened was that when I changed camera position with number pad, the green strip shows at the top of the screen saying 'Camera 5 selected'. The screen blinks but the cockpit view remains at its default setting. I can scroll through all the camera views and it gives the Camera x selected message but no actual change. It is obviously some issue connecting with P3D. However since simplecam is now working fine with FSX-SE, it must be a P3D issue - most probably above my ability to trace!

Bad news

Just opened FSX-SE and exactly what I described above is happening in FSX. It was working perfectly last night in FSX. Now that I have closed P3D and opened FSX, I have the same issue- Message Camera 'x' selected, then a slight blink and movement of the screen and remains in default view. seems I was wrong above - it is an issue with connecting to the sims. Any suggestions!?

Hi John,

I fear that it's a SimConnect issue, but I cannot say which is the right way to solve it. Did you already try to re-install SimConnect? Just go to the: \Prepar3D v3\redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib path and run the SimConnect.msi installer. Maybe this helps.

Hi Urs

Thanks - have got SimpleCam working in FSX again! My discovery was that if I go into P3D, SimpleCam does not work, if I then shut down P3D and go into FSX, SimpleCam has the same problem as in P3D, however, I can then recreate the camera views and save in FSX and it works! I don't know what to make of it. Obviously on my system, something in P3D is destabilising SimpleCam. Yes I have tried to reinstall simconect but this doesn't work. At least it works in FSX-SE as long as I don't go into P3D! The only real advantage for me with P3D is not losing the sound focus when using addons (eg FS-FlightControl). When I get back from holiday I shall probably do a complete reinstall of P3D and see if that solves the issue.

Thanks again

John
