  1. David,

selecting an alternate airport when setting up the route is meant as a 'preset'. At this time it has no other impact on the route. As soon as you decide to fly to the alternate (e.g. due to bad weather conditions at your destination airport) you re-open the "Route Setup" module, select the "Alternates" tab and there you select the airport to go (the most right column shows you the current distance to each of the alternate airports). Then you press "As Destination" and the current flight plan will be changed and will then consider the alternate airport as your destination airport. Waypoints that are not yet 'passed' at this time will then be removed from the flight plan.

  2. Robert,

it depends on whether you've already activated a route or not.

    a) if no route is activated and you select any SID, STAR or Approach then it is more or less only for 'viewing purpose'.

    B) if a route is activated and you select any SID, STAR or Approach then you will be asked whether to add/replace the selected procedure to the currently activated route (see next image).without[/u] procedures

    - Activate the route (-> Progress module opens)

    - Switch to Departure chart

    - Select the departure procedure (according to current conditions and requirements) and confirm the route change by pressing "Activate procedurename"

    - STAR and Approach will only be selected after I have listen to the destination airports ATIS.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Drew,

it's all depending on the callsigns that are used by the controllers.

I'm not sure but I assume that every controller must manually type a callsign for the FIR/ARTCC that he/she wants to control when he/she is signing in.

If the given callsign doesn't exist or doesn't exactly matches the definitions in the 'servinfo.dat' file, then EFB cannot assign the controller to a certain FIR/ARTCC or airport. In such a case you won't see the frequency although it is online. So from my point of view the cause of the problem is that controllers can use callsigns that obviously are not defined/present in the definitions file.

  4. Jean-Louis,

    Any idea Urs ??
FSX generates and shows AI traffic within a range of approx. 200 KM. The DataProvider is reading all the aircraft within this maximum range. Only the DisplayUnit is reducing the data if any limitation (either vertically or horizontally) is set.

If you get AI traffic properly but not online traffic then it seems to be a problem at the pilot client software which is creating the aircraft from the online network stream.

  5. Hi Ed,

thanks for your kind words on EFB. Much appreciated.

I'm currently not aware of any problems concerning sound related things. EFB is using the sound player which is provided by the .net framework (Namespace = System.Media.SoundPlayer).

Did you already ask the programmer of "PVA ACARS.exe". Most probably he can tell you more since the error message points to that program.

  6. Iain,

after the route has been activated, EFB automatically switches to the 'Progress' view. You will see a horizontal bar at the top of the charts. Select either 'Departure', 'Arrival' or 'Approach'. After pressing one of these buttons on the main menu bar the 'blue' button will change its text to either 'ICAO Depature' or 'ICAO Arrival' etc.

Press this blue button to get a submenu which offers all the functions available for that certain airport.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Willow,

    Thanks for your kind words.

EFB doesn't show any charts from Navigraph (I assume you mean Navigraph instead of Navisoft). The charts you see in EFB are calculated and rendered based on several sources like Navigraph FMS data (for procedures) and FSX facilities data (for airports, navaids, etc.).

EFB covers the entire world although not for all airports you will have Navigraph procedure data available.

  8. Brad,

The way to create a route using airways goes like this:

    - Open "Route Setup"

    - Press "Select"

    - Enter a route description like "EHAM GORLO UL980 XAMAN L980 LOGAN EGLL"

    - Press "OK"

The enroute chart doesn't show a frequency strip because there are no frequencies available (except you're flying online).
